Patriarch Rev. Robert Schuller Ousted From Crystal Cathedral Board

The ministry has been torn apart by financial problems and a Schuller family feud. The property was sold to a Newport Beach firm in May.

The Rev. Robert H. Schuller was voted off the board of Crystal Cathedral Ministries, which he started in an Orange drive-in theater in 1955, his son, Robert A. Schuller, confirmed today, according to various media sources.

The younger Schuller—who himself was voted off the board three years ago—said the removal of his 84-year-old father was prompted by his father's insistence on expanding the troubled church's board

Besides financial turmoil, the ministry has been torn apart by a Schuller family feud, with the elder Robert, his wife and his son at odds with Schuller's two daughters, including Sheila Schuller Coleman, who has taken control of the ministry.

Crystal Cathedral Ministries filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection,
leading to a reorganization plan filed last month that includes the sale of the ministry's buildings, according to media reports.
