High School Drama Teacher Placed on Leave Pending Police Investigation

Ron Martin, a drama teacher at Corona del Mar High School, was placed on leave Wednesday pending investigations by the school district and police involving an alleged battery.

A drama teacher at Corona del Mar High School was placed on leave today pending a school district and police investigation into an alleged battery, a school district official announced.

Teacher Ron Martin was placed on leave from the Newport-Mesa Unified School District as "a matter of standard practice pending a district investigation," according to Laura Boss, district spokeswoman.

The Newport Beach Police Department is also working on an investigation and said no arrest has been made.
 
"We are investigating an allegation of battery," police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said.  "The allegation involves a teacher and a juvenile."

Manzella said the alleged battery did not include weapons. The investigation is ongoing.

"We are investigating the veracity of the allegation, and gathering all pertinent information," Manzella said.

No other information was released.
