I hope our story will help others who have lost a loved one see the importance of organ donation.Read More The knowledge that someone else can be saved is wonderful. It has been twenty years and I still miss him everyday and always will. But he did what he wanted and helped so many people. Thank you for your interest in getting our stories told. Debbie Atkinson

This made me cry. My son had his first heart attack at age 44, followed by 2 more. Since then andRead More 2 different by-pass surgeries, 7 stints, plus another procedure-- wearing a pacemaker/defibrillator, he said he did not think he could not handle a heart transplant. I will share this story with him.........

Yes, lets talk more about wine and chocolate. Maybe it is not too late to diet.
Greta Boris April 23, 2013 at 05:06 pm
Dr. Sears is right on the money. We've focused on starving and depriving ourselves as the onlyRead More alternative to obesity. Really it is about nurturing and caring for ourselves. I love that he mentioned wine and chocolate at the end of his talk. My book on making a healthy lifestyle change is entitled, The Wine and Chocolate Workout.

nisha - reporter how about a couple of line on the bio of a woman 106 years old? She's fantastic andRead More your reporting is pathetic!

Until more facts would be shared on this, one might assume that his "mental illness" was aRead More form of deep depression. But depression is often only one symptom that coincides with several other symptoms under a more complex mental illness type (ex. schizophrenia, etc.). I'm hoping that homosexuality wasn't considered the "mental illness" in this case. Unfortunately, in many religious families in the United States "mental illness" still appears to be the preferred category under which to compartmentalize homosexuality.
Shripathi Kamath April 15, 2013 at 02:44 pm
At some point someone in the responsible media will seek confirmation: "what form(s) of mentalRead More illness(es) did Matthew actually suffer from?" In other words, what was the medical diagnosis. Surely it is not a matter of "respecting the family's privacy" at this point. "The same advances are possible for mental illness. The public will is there." Until one has to fund such. Then it becomes about mooching, welfare, socialism, governmental influence etc.
Shripathi Kamath April 15, 2013 at 02:40 pm
Are you also absolutely disgusted at Rick Warren and his ilk when they lash out against homosexualsRead More and homosexuality, particularly when gay teens commit suicide out of despair having suffered the concerted effort to demonize them and their behavior? "I am so afraid of what this country is coming to when I hear about how awful people can be. " Yes, it helps though when you close your eyes to gay teens committing suicide and instead choose to make martyrs out of the perpetrators. Again, no one should have to suffer the pain of losing one's offspring -- not the Warrens, not the ones you hate or love. The Warrens' grief was not caused by anyone else. Their kid allegedly had a mental illness and in a moment of despair he killed himself. But there are those whose grief has been contributed by Warren and his ilk. Perhaps his supporters would be mindful of those as well.

Oh Miss Claudia...didn't ask for your opinion of anything, therefore I'm not interested in anythingRead More you have to say. I really don't want to see such dumb articles in the positings for Laguna Niguel. Previously Patch was for the area you live in & now it's going south quickly I predict it will close by the end of the year...very little here. RAh, Rah, A Yorba Linda woman has been crowned Ms. Senior Orange County on Saturday night.

Lindsey Hanson April 8, 2013 at 03:45 pm

This should be a time of grieving instead of Facebook and consoling loved ones a time to get thingsRead More in order. I am no longer a member and have not been since basic values have changed.

We love Rick and Kay Warren; and we hurt because they are hurting. Since we have utmost respect andRead More honor for them, we find it difficult to hear the periodic mean-spirited comments made by some; mostly, ill-informed individuals. Rationale thinking says that any tragedy in the life of any person or family demands compassion from others--not railing. If we were able to collect the supportive notes and letters for the Warren family and compare them to those who are lacking kindness and empathy, I believe the clear message would be sent--Rick and Kay Warren are dearly loved and the presence of God is their strength.

You seem you have a lot of anger for this Preacher of the Gospel! Tragedy is tragedy! WhyRead More persecution for this man? He made nobody to choose life or death , they had a free will , Its unfortunate they choose death, Suicide spirit is at and all time high, more military men and women have committed suicide the last couple years more than anytime in history ! Dont blame a man! Choices are made individually! our prayers should be for all that are hurting!

Ragland, looking at the situation regarding the facts, not a biased opinion because I may personallyRead More know them. I have read every report and listened to the rescue in real time on the scanner. Their behavior raises questions that they are unwilling to answer seemingly claiming memory loss. These are facts , it's not personal.

(cont.) So, my guess would be Nick is trying to say he'd love to retrace what happened to get moreRead More insight. The truth is, we may never know the full truth. I really think unless you have been in that state, you really don't know. I wish people would just use their energy to be grateful for both teens & families, thank everyone who in any way contributed (including prayer--I believe it all helped), marvel at how quickly a community can come together (remarks to me from Nick's family were how nice it was to know how many nice people there truly are), and learn from this what we can. But, do it without judgment which is just never helpful.

You have a male, female, and a bi (either F or M, no matter) - that way you have a true lovingRead More relationship that has all participating - you can actually have your own kids, you can have at least one, two, or three incomes to support a family, every thumped out actual bio kid has a mom, dad, and an extra of one or the other. Whuts a more perfect union??! Seems a much better argument than what's been going on by ether side here - and even better if one of the three in such a union is a lawyer - not necessary but is economical. Leave 'marriage' as a term for the two in a hetero legacy relationship, and promote 'Thrunions' - threepers. It's all just about people loving and sexing each other anyway. We can have marriage-2heteros; Thrunions, - 3of a male and female round-up, and logically and best suited for todays whirld; and Twunions-2 homos, M or F. Everybody gets taxed the same way. Case clothesed. [And the lady in the news with the 40 year relationship, why she and her partner didn't go to legalzoom a long time ago and set up things so she didn't get stung by a $350k taxhit is not a homo or a hetero problem, but a brain freeze on these two ladies shortsighted sheet...holycow what a little schooling could help, instead of the headmush espounded by the 'newsmedias'...sheeesh!]

In a LGBT swirl, we hear alot from the L's, and the G's, but little from the B's and the T's (theRead More latter, less since MiltonBurl's gone, and EddyMurfees staying home at nite...); but the B's are strangely quiet... (even the Jtruvaltas, TCroozes, KSpaceez, and the Callooneys,,,I bullieve..). Just seems odd there's less outfront from these last two groups in the mix. Logically, an argument for changing personal unions (...everybody could probubbly be better together if we just left the term 'marriage' alone and left it to the heteros...whuts the big deal 'friends'?; it's a big legal country here that can work fine with a contractual union that anyone can set up in this country - that's a lot less expensieve than 'getting married', hetero or homo, and stop trying to whistle up an ol river that has its own course and tack on to the well-existing 'marriage' term. There is an obvious distinction between hetro and homo unions, so get over it fellow/fellowette humans, ok)...but to continue some logic, the arguments played for homo unions are even better seved for human unions that really involve three people. Truly.
