I began covering Poway wrestling in the fall of 1984 when I was first starting out in journalism.Read More Wayne Branstetter was one of several terrific coaches at the school at that time (Dan Schaitel, Lisa Reis, Jay Trousdale, Neville Saner, Mark Miller). One of the things that became apparent: If you want your athletes to succeed, you must have great expectations of them. That demand for excellence is something I've noticed from every successful coach who gets the most out of his athletes whether they win or lose. What Branstetter doesn't touch on in this interview is his faith and the Christian example he sets, proving to impressionable young men that the faithful can be tough—and cool—at the same time. My best Wayne Branstetter story: Once I wanted to do a George Plimpton-type article and wrestle one of his athletes and then write about it. He nixed the idea. "These guys don't know how to take it easy," he said. "They'll break your arms. These guys will kill you." He was probably right. My arms and dignity are still intact. Congratulations to Coach Branstetter (and those who have influenced him and been influenced by him) for getting much-deserved recognition, maintaining a successful program that has been above reproach, and making a difference in the lives of many affected by him directly and indirectly.

@The Beast !, also, you're thanking @Tray for his "being honest" while you still manage toRead More include only Latinos in your perception of whom a "dirty" person from an "off-limits" park or public place is. Take the money sect. of state John Kerry is using to buy weapons for the Syrian rebels that areRead More dominated by the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD. Give that money to the tornado victims that are AMERICANS.

Want to help the victims in OK.? Use this money Obama. Soldiers wounded in the Fort HoodRead More shooting spree in November 2009 have a new problem on their hands: getting the shooting's classification changed from "workplace violence" to "combat related." As reported by Dallas-Fort Worth's NBC 5 Investigates, the injured soldiers are struggling to pay their bills. Because the government doesn't classify the shooting as an act of combat or terror, those injured don't receive additional pay or Purple Hearts. Receiving the "pay and medical benefits earned by those wounded in combat" would be a big help to these soldiers and their families, reports NBC 5. Adding to the soldiers' concerns: Major Nidal Hasan, the man charged in the shootings, continues to be paid his salary and has earned more than $278,000 since the shooting, which resulted in 13 deaths and 32 injuries. The news team reported that the Department of Defense confirmed that Hasan has continued to receive his salary because he has not yet been proved guilty. The salary rule is documented in the Uniform Code of Military Justice. (That Hasan would still receive his pay was first reported in 2011.) That's $278,000 down the drain unless the Muslim on the hill uses executive orders to negate the salary!!!
