In 1906, Fred Lewis bought this tract of land on the waterfront. For years, he operated a boat yard there, storing and repainting boats for many of the locals. In 1936, he leased the land to Al Anderson. He tore down the boatyard and construction began on the original Balboa Fun Zone. After years of being a fun place for rides and games, a recent makeover modernized it. Balboa Fun Zone features a carousel, ferris wheel, bumper cars and a great variety of other rides. Inside the arcade customers will find games, including skee ball, racing games and video games to play. Many of these games offer tickets that can be redeemed for prizes. There is a photo booth and also a snack bar with a selection of boardwalk treats.
