TSA Expands Searches of Parked Cars at Airports.

In another sign of our loss of privacy and private property ownership, when traveling, you probably don’t want to use the various airports’ valet services, as it now appears that our wonderful TSA feels that it can conduct warrantless searches of your vehicle, if you use an airport valet service. From a legal perspective, I would guess that the TSA would argue that you have handed over your car keys to them or someone else, and in a sense ‘have given permission’ to search your vehicle.

Clearly, these searches would appear to be a violation of the Fourth Amendment, which used to protect against ‘unreasonable searches and seizures’. Given the history of thefts committed by certain TSA agents and others, it would seem that you might now feel even more uncomfortable leaving your car keys with any airport attendant while this new TSA policy is in effect.
