Wake Up! Newport, Planning Commission, Human Trafficking Awareness

Events taking place this week in Newport Beach.

1. The Board of Library Trustees meeting will be held today at 5 p.m. at the Newport Beach Central Library, 1000 Avocado Ave. Read the agenda here.

2. On Wednesday from 1-2 p.m., a Hoag Hospital Medical Lecture will be held at the OASIS Senior Center. The lecture will focus on groundbreaking treatments for those who suffer from chronic reflux. Intead of medications that only aid symptoms and don’t treat the condition, Hoag is now offering the revolutionary new LINX Reflux Management System, a short outpatient procedure that treats GERD and its symptoms. Learn who is a candidate and the benefits for patients.
Registration is REQUIRED for this free lecture. RSVP to 800-514-4624 or at hoag.org. The OASIS is located at 801 Narcissus Ave. in Corona del Mar.

3. On Thursday the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce will host its WAKE UP! Newport meeting with speaker Doug Lofstrom, CEO of the Orange County Fair and Events Center. Lofstrom has recently assumed leadership of an organization that has been tumultuous the last several years due to the on and off again sale of the property by the state and allegations of conflicts of interest by Fair Board members.  He will speak about the future direction of the OCFEC.

4. Don't forget! Thursday's Newport Beach Planning Commission meeting has been cancelled.

5. Saturday is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. An estimated 20 million men, women and children around the world are victims of human trafficking. You can take a free awareness-training course online.
