Fire Rings Heat Back Up, Shopping on Thanksgiving Day, Holiday Closures

Events taking place this week in Newport Beach and the surrounding area.

1. The Newport Beach City Council will meet on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The agenda items include a staff recommendation to install natural-gas fueled fire rings in replacement of the traditional fire pits. Read our recent story here about the fire ring issue, and get the full City Council agenda here.

2. On Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m., the OASIS Senior Center is hosting a Thanksgiving Luncheon. The $5 luncheon includes a meal and live entertainment. Get your tickets today at the Administration Office, 801 Narcissus Ave. in Corona del Mar.

3. If you don’t like a traditional turkey dinner on Thanksgiving or would like breakfast with your family before heading off to a big meal later in the day, PdM Kitchen in Irvine will be open for breakfast on Thanksgiving morning from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. PdM Kitchen recently expanded its breakfast menu to include French Toast layered with mascarpone cheese and a fresh boysenberry sauce, and Scott’s Eggs Benedict, a signature take on the classic dish with a parmesan croissant topped with goat cheese, grilled tomato, Niman Ranch bacon, poached eggs and spinach. PdM Kitchen is located in Oak Creek Shopping Center at 5781 Alton Parkway, off Jeffrey Road, in Irvine.

4. Black Friday is traditionally the day after Thanksgiving, but many retailers are starting early, before the turkey is even put away. Walmart, the nation’s largest retailer, is kicking off its Black Friday sales at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

5. Don't forget! Newport Beach City Hall and city libraries will be closed on Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.
