Fire Open House, Superintendent Meeting, Sandcastles

Events taking place this week in Newport Beach.

1. The city of Newport Beach is asking for volunteers to help count bikes around the city. Read our story here to get more information.

2. Fred Navarro, superintendent of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District, will discuss the district's priorities Thursday at 7:45 a.m. at the Central Library.  The event is being hosted by Wake Up! Newport and sponsored by the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce.

3. On Friday at noon the city will conduct the Outdoor Emergency Notification System test. For more details, read our story here.

4. The 52nd annual Sandcastle Contest will be held on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Corona del Mar State Beach. Sign-up and get more information here.

5. The Newport Beach Fire Department is hosting an Open House on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to kick off Fire Prevention Week.  The Open House will be held at Fire Station No. 7, located at 20401 SW Acacia Street in Santa Ana Heights.  Newport Beach firefighters and lifeguards will be giving live demonstrations and teaching the community about fire prevention.
