Crime Prevention Meeting, Foods as Medicine, Free Burritos

Events taking place today and this week in Newport Beach.

1. Today from 6-7 p.m., the Newport Beach Police Department is hosting a community meeting at Fire Station 7, 20401 SW Acacia St., to discuss crime and crime prevention within the Santa Ana Heights community. To reserve your spot, email RSVP@NBPD.org.

2. Hoag Blood Donor Services is accepting blood and platelet donations today from 12:30-6:45 p.m. Anyone who donates will receive a free burrito from Chronic Tacos. Hoag Blood Donor Services is located at 510 Superior Ave., Suite 130 in Newport Beach. To make an appointment to donate, call 949-764-5621 or email donateblood@hoag.org.

3. On Tuesday, Oct. 15  from 7 - 8:30 p.m., Chef Geeta Bansal, owner of the Clay Oven In Irvine, will host a presentation on cooking food that can be used as medicine. The program is $20 per person and advanced reservations are suggested. The presentation will be held at the Central Library Friends Room,
1000 Avocado Ave. Attendees will learn how certain foods can contribute to a healthier body. Bansal will also be whipping up Turmeric and Yogurt Chicken, Shrimp and Mango Curry and Cumin Sweet Potatoes.

4. The Newport Beach Planning Commission will meet Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at City Council Chambers, 100 Civic Center Dr. Read the full agenda here.

5. The play, An Act of Imagination, will play on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Newport Theatre Arts Center, 2501 Cliff Dr. Find more information about the play, at ntaconline.com/season.htm.
