Movie Buffs Needed for Film Festival

Volunteer opportunities are available at the 13th annual Newport Beach Film Festival which runs April 26 - May 3.

Each year more than 50,000 film aficionados arrive in Newport Beach to experience films from around the world. Many volunteers are needed to make sure the screenings are successful.

The 13th annual Newport Beach Film Festival-- which runs April 26 through May 3 -- will host 400 films from 50 different countries, premiere parties and galas. Throughout the celebration of cinema, volunteers are needed to fill several positions including guest relations, merchandise sales, theater ushering and office reception.

Festival co-founder and CEO Gregg Schwenk says this year's festival will be bigger than last year therefore a large amount of dedicated volunteers are required.

"Sixty thousand volunteer hours went into last year's run," Schwenk said. "With over 400 films screening at this year's Festival, we're looking  for enthusiastic film lovers to volunteer."

Anyone interested in volunteering must attend an orientation meeting on Saturday, April 14 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Newport Beach City Council Chambers. Volunteers will receive additional information about the volunteer opportunities and available shifts. Anyone interested should send an email to volunteers@newportbeachfilmfest.com to RSVP for orientation.

Volunteers under 18 must submit a signed parental consent form, while those under 16 years must be accompanied by a parent/guardian during their volunteer shifts. New and returning volunteers must also register online for Shiftboard.
