Victims of Domestic Violence to Benefit from Gala

The fundraiser will be held Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Island Hotel.

Over the last 17 years, millions of victims of domestic violence have received help through services provided by Laura’s House

Tomorrow hundreds of supporters are expected to gather at the Island Hotel for the organization's annual gala in hopes of raising money to assist the victims. Each year, Laura’s House provides residential shelter services to more than 200 women and children, counseling to more than 300 clients, legal services to more than 300 clients and receives more than 1,700 crisis hotline calls. Margaret Bayston, the organization's executive director, says the number of people utilizing these services in Orange County has continued to grow.

“The current economic environment certainly plays a role in this, with families continuing to feel the strain resulting from layoffs and salary cuts," Bayston said. "Because the financial crisis has also impacted the funding we receive from the state, as well as many of our foundation and corporate supporters, events like our annual gala are critical.”
