Seven Pets Adopted at SUP for a Pup Event

The fourth annual Newport Beach fundraiser brought pets and the surf community together.

The air was filled with puppy love over the weekend as seven at-risk dogs were adopted at Kaenon Polarized's fourth annual SUP for a Pup pet adoption fair and sample sale.

The charity fundraiser was held Saturday to support at-risk animals through a partnership between Kaenon, local surf brands and A Wish for Animals, a non-profit that helps find homes for homeless and at-risk animals.

"The goal was to get a bunch of dogs and find them a home," said Chris Wyman, Kaenon's event organizer.

Toni Eakes, founder of AWFA, was happy to see the one day event evolve into such a success. Two hours into the day, seven dogs were already adopted into loving homes.

“We’re always amazed with how supportive the community is,” Eakes said. “At the end of the day, everybody is happy.”

Since SUP for a Pup started four years, it has helped raise more than $11,000 and has helped place more than 60 dogs with new families. The dog-friendly event also provided food from Wahoo's Fish Tacos and sample sales from local Orange County surf brands. A portion of the sales proceeds from Olukai, Hinano Tahiti, Quickblade and Riviera Paddle Surf was donated to AWFA.

"It's cool to be able to sell product but the dogs really make the event," said Tyler Weaver of Kaenon Polarized. "You get to see the pups, hold them and watch them go to good homes."

Eakes and Wyan hope to get more vendors for next year to contribute to SUP for a Pup’s continued success.
