Newport Beach Man May Have Been Drunk When He Struck Girl

A 10-year-old in Buena Park may have been at fault, but driver may be charged in the accident.

A Newport Beach man was free on bail Sunday but was facing a possible drunken driving charge in connection with an accident in which he struck a 10-year-old girl in Buena Park on Friday.

Edward McLaughlin, 48, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after the accident about 6:45 p.m. near the girl's home in the 7500 block of Franklin Street, Buena Park police Sgt. Roger Powell told the Orange County Register.

McLaughlin posted bail and was released pending arraignment.

The girl was taken to UCI Medical Center, and her condition reportedly is "serious to extreme." She may have been at fault in the accident.
