Slideshow: Newport Beach Shows Red, White and Blue Pride

Bangles, boats, stars and stripes: the crowds are out to celebrate the 4th of July in Newport.

The Newport Beach July 4th Family Parade kicked off a day of patriotic action on the beach with kids, dogs and cyclists putting on the red, white and blue and heading to the shore.

The day's events started off with a pancake breakfast with the American Legion Post 291, the Newport Harbor Boat Parade, the Newport Peninsula Bike Parade & Community Festival, the Independence Day Parade Mariners Park, a musical festival featuring the Bangles at Newport Dunes and a fireworks show at 9 p.m. on the Back Bay.
