Wednesday Surf Report

There's modest size surf, but conditions aren't cooperating.

Waking up with the waves on Wednesday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report.  Well, what a bummer...we've got a pretty good dose of energy in the water, but we're seeing the return of the coastal eddie which isn't helping those conditions early on.

We're already seeing some texture or bump on it, due to the variable wind.  As far as the surf goes...there's mostly south southwest swell and barely any northwest windswell.  That recipe is providing some crumbly and bumpy semi-wally lines, with a few pick and choose corners.

Most Newport Beach spots are hanging in that waist- to chest-high range, with those top south facing breaks pulling shoulder-high waves, with some head-high sets.

At 5:50 this morning the tide drained out to a negative 1.2 low which won't help things early on.  Many spots will be kind of inconsistent throughout mid-morning due to the lack of water.  Your best bet once that tide turns around and eventually climbs up to a 3.9 high at 12:15 this afternoon.

If you're planning on paddling, well that water temperature is feeling more comfortable, so you can throw on a 3/2 fullsuit, with it averaging between 59 and 61 degrees.  See ya in the water!
