Wednesday Surf Report

The surf really backs down, but those conditions are finally cooperating.

Waking up with the waves on Wednesday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report.  Well, it looks like the surf has really dropped, but the conditions have really cleaned up too!  Overall we're seeing small to some playful size waves at those top combo breaks.

It's clean and glassy early on, with a mix of some minimal residual west-northwest windswell and a tad of southerly energy starting to show.

That recipe is providing some drained out and dumpy racy lines, with a few fun rippable shoulders to snag.  Most Newport Beach spots are running about knee- to waist-high, with those standout breaks pulling an occasional plus set.

Taking a look at those tides, at 5:39 this morning it drained out to a 0.8 low which will have many spots needing water early to mid-morning.  The tide then pushes back up to a 3.1 high at 11:35 later this morning and then drops once again to a 1.7 low at 4:43 this afternoon.

If you're planning on paddling, you'll want to wear the most rubber you can find, with the water temperature taking a big dip and hanging between a very chilly 54 and 55 degrees.  Good luck out there!
