Wave Check: Friday

Messy conditions!

Waking up with the waves on Friday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Corona del Mar Patch surf report.  Well, we're seeing plenty of playful plus size surf, but unfortunately those conditions aren't what we're looking for out there.

There's already some bump or light chop on the water early on, thanks to the variable southeast wind.  We've got a continued combination of energy.  We're seeing mostly west northwest swell and some smaller south southwesterly energy in the water.

That recipe is making for some racy and fairly disorganized dumpy lines, with maybe a few scattered shoulders to snag.  Most Newport Beach spots are seeing waist-to shoulder-high waves, with the top breaks pulling head-high waves, with a few larger sets.

Checking those tides, at 9:37 a.m it drops to a 0.1 low which will have many beaches in need of water mid-morning.  The tide then pushes back up to a 3.1 high at 4:51 p.m.

If you're going to grab a session, you'll want to wear no less than a 3/2 fullsuit or better yet a 4/3 and possibly the booties, with the water temperature averaging between 56 and 57 degrees.  See ya in the water!

FYI...The County Health Department urges surfers and swimmers to stay out of the ocean after rain for at least 72 hours due to urban runoff, especially near river mouths, storm drains and harbor entrances.
