Vanguard Celebrates National Championship for Basketball
The team was headed back to Costa Mesa today, and the university will hold a championship rally next week, said Erin Hales of Vanguard.
Staff at Vanguard University today were excitedly planning a rally for the college's men's basketball team, which won a national championship for smaller schools.
The Vanguard Lions won their first men's basketball National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics championship on Tuesday, defeating Emmanuel College of Georgia 70-65 in Kansas City.
The team was headed back to Costa Mesa today, and the university will hold a championship rally next week, said Erin Hales of Vanguard.

Vanguard's women's basketball team won the championship in 2008.
"It feels amazing. We just praise God," Vanguard head coach Rhett Soliday said. "We said before this game, win or lose, that we're going to give (God) the glory, because he made this a special season. This game doesn't define our season and it doesn't define Emmanuel's season. We just happened to be on the winning end ..."
