Tuesday Surf Report

Surf Junkie Jeff talks surf conditions.

Good Tuesday morning surfers, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report.  Well, we're seeing some very early season energy out there.  So, you'll definitely want to hit up a south facing beach.  We've got mostly small to playful size surf in this neck of the woods.

The conditions are clean and glassy early on, with a decent dose of south-southwesterly swell in the water and not much northwest energy to speak of.  That recipe is providing some crumbly workable lined up lefts, with a few good against the grain waves.

Most Newport Beach spots are hanging in the knee- to chest-high range, with the south facing focal points pulling maybe an occasional bigger one on the right tide.

At 7 this morning the tide pushed way up to a 5.4 high which will have many spots starting off kind of soft and inconsistent throughout the morning.  The tide then drains out to a negative 0.5 low at 1:51 this afternoon.

If you're going to grab a few, you'll want to wear at least a 3/2 fullsuit or a 4/3 and maybe the booties, with the water temperature averaging between 56 and 57 degrees.  See ya in the water.

FYI: remember the County Health Department urges surfers and swimmers to stay out of the ocean for at least 72 hours after a rain, especially near storm drains, river mouths and harbor entrances.
