Good Thursday morning, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report. Well, I wouldn't put paddling at the top of your to-do list. Yep the surf is still fairly small out there, but it's likely to build a bit throughout the day.
The conditions are starting off mostly clean and glassy, with a small dose of west-northwest swell in the water. That recipe is offering some kinda soft and weak sectiony lines, with a few workable ones.
Most Newport Beach spots are hanging in the knee- to waist-high range, with the focal points pulling a few plus sets.

Taking a look at the tides...at 8:54 this morning it climbs way up to a 5.7 high which is going to have many spots pretty swamped or even shut off mid morning. Your best bet: wait for that tide to turn around and drop a bit. It eventually drains out to a negative 0.6 low at 3:42 this afternoon.
If you're going to grab a session, throw on at least a 3/2 fullsuit or the 4/3 and maybe the booties, with the water temperature averaging between 56 and 57 degrees. See ya in the water!
