Thursday: Surf Is Marginal at Best

Surf Junkie Jeff provides an overview of today's surf conditions.

Good Thursday morning, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report.

Well, I would find something else to do besides paddle out!  Yep, it's looking marginal at best.

We're seeing similar-size surf on tap, but those conditions are likely to deteriorate throughout the day.  There's some bump, or even light chop on it, due to the variable southwest wind.

We've got the continued mix of lingering southwest swell and minimal northwest energy in the water.  That recipe is making for some sorta disorganized lines with a few short shoulders.

Most Newport Beach breaks are running about knee- to waist-high with the top combo spots pulling stomach high waves with a few chest high sets.

At 5:18 early this morning the tide climbed up to a 5.2 high and then drops to a 0.7 low at 12:41 this afternoon.  If you must get wet, throw on the the 4/3 full suit and booties, with the water temperature averaging between 56 and 58 degrees.  See ya in the water!
