Sage Hill Football Coach to Be Honored by ABC/NFL

JR Tolver will be named ABC7/NFL High School Coach of the Week during Saturday's "Sports Zone," which will be taped on Wednesday on school's football field.

Sage Hill football coach JR Tolver has been selected the ABC7/NFL High School Coach of the Week and the award includes a $1,000 grant from the NFL Youth Football Fund to the school.

Tolver, who is beginning his third year at the head of the Lightning's program, will be presented a plaque signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and ABC sports announcer Rob Fukuzaki, as well as an NFL Coach of the Week cap on ABC 7's "Sports Zone" on Saturday, Sept. 3.

Taping of the segment will take place Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. on the school's Ramer Field and everyone is invited to attend.

Honorees are selected based on letters nominating coaches with off-field, educational and community accomplishments taking precedence over season and career records.

Tolver, who played at San Diego State, spent four seasons (2003-06) with three different NFL teams as a wide receiver.

The Lightning opens its 2011 football campaign on Friday night with a game against visiting Fairmont Prep at 7 p.m.
