Newport Harbor opened Sunset league play with a 13-5 victory over Edison Wednesday evening at Newport Harbor. The Sailors demonstrated the depth of their bench, with seven different players scoring. Junior Curtis Fink and Senior Hank Lee led the team with three goals each, while Junior Dan Stevens and Sophomore Mitchell Mendoza added a pair. Ryan Fowler, Andrew Silvers and Sam Edson each had a goal for the Sailors. Senior Koby Yokota had 9 blocks and one steal before turning over the goal to Junior Wyatt Muller.
Newport Harbor is now 9-1 this season. Next up for the Tars is the S&R Sports Cup Tournament Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 at the William Wollett Aquatics Center in Irvine.
