Friday Surf Report

Small and playful surf sticking around.

Waking up with the waves on Friday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report.  The small and playful surf is sticking around for another day.  So, if nothing else get out there and enjoy the nice weather!

We have some pretty clean and glassy conditions early on, with a combo of mostly similar size northwest windswell and just a hint of south southwest energy underneath it.

That recipe is offering this stretch of sand with some kinda crumbly broken-up lines, with a few steep shoulders.  Most spots in Newport Beach are hanging in the knee to waist high plus range, with the focal points pulling stomach high waves, with a few bigger ones.

Taking a look at those tides...at 7:49 this morning it pushes way up to a 5.0 high which is going to have some spots pretty swamped and slow mid-morning.  If you can wait for that tide to drop a bit, but get it before it eventually drains out to a 0.0 low at 1:56 this afternoon.

If you're planning on paddling, break out at least a 3/2 fullsuit and possibly the booties, with the water temperature averaging between 56 and 57 degrees.  See ya in the water!
