Friday Surf Report

Good amount of action, but lousy conditions!

Waking up with the waves on Friday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report.  Well, this latest storm has definitely brought us some surf, but also some wind with it as well.  So, it's not going to look very inviting out there this morning!

We're seeing some light to moderate chop on it, due to the variable west-northwest wind.  We have a good combination of energy out there made up of some west-northwest and northwest swells and some southerly energy in the mix.

That recipe is providing some racy and fairly peaky lines, but it's pretty unorganized.  Most Newport Beach spots are running about chest- to head-high, with the top combo spots pulling overhead plus sets.

At 7:16 this morning the tide dropped to a 0.3 low which will have many breaks needing water mid-morning.  The tide then climbs back up to a 2.8 high at 2:00 this afternoon.

If you're planning on paddling, then you'll want to wear at least a 3/2 fullsuit and maybe booties, with the water temperature averaging between 57 and 58 degrees.  Good luck out there!!

FYI: the County Health Department urges surfers and swimmers to stay out of the ocean for at least 72 hours after a rain due to the likelihood of increased bacteria levels especially near river mouths, storm drains and harbor entrances.
