Friday Surf Report

Modest surf, with crummy conditions.

Waking up with the waves on Friday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report.  Well, there's a modest amount of action, but those conditions are not cooperating.

We're already seeing some light chop on the water, due to the variable southeast wind.  We've got a continued mixture of swells in the water.  There's mainly west-northwest swell and some smaller south-southwesterly energy.

That recipe is offering some racy crumbly, bumpy and dumpy lines, with maybe a few workable ones.  Most spots in Newport Beach are running about waist- to shoulder-high, with the top breaks pulling head-high waves, with a few larger sets.

Taking a look at those tides, at 9:37 this morning it drops to a 0.1 low which will have many beaches needing water mid-morning.  The tide then pushes back up to a 3.1 high at 4:51 this afternoon.

If you're planning on paddling, throw on at least a 3/2 fullsuit or a 4/3 and possibly the booties, with the water temperature averaging between 56 and 58 degrees.  See ya in the water!

FYI: The County Health Department urges surfers and swimmers to stay out of the ocean after rain for at least 72 hours due to urban runoff, especially near river mouths, storm drains and harbor entrances.
