Friday Surf Report

Surf Junkie Jeff talks surf conditions.

Waking up with the waves on Friday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report.  Well, if you're going to grab a session, then you'll probably want to get out there this morning.  Yep, the latest storm has yet to arrive, so those conditions are starting off pretty clean.

As far as the surf goes, we're seeing a combination of fading west northwest swell and some minor south-southwest energy in the background.  That recipe is providing some kinda crumbly sectiony lines, with some good corners to grab.

Most Newport Beach spots are hanging the in the knee- to chest-high range, with the standout breaks pulling some shoulder-high sets.

At 8:44 this morning the tide climbs up to a 6.3 high which will definitely have some spots pretty full or even shut down mid-morning.  The tide then drains out to a negative 1.1 low at 3:21 this afternoon.

If you're going to squeeze in a surf, then you'll want to throw on at least the 3/2 fullsuit or the 4/3 and maybe the boots, with the water temperature averaging between 56 and 58 degrees.  See ya in the water!

FYI: County Health Officials urge surfers and swimmers to stay out of the ocean after a rain for at least 72 hours due to increased bacteria levels, especially near harbors, river mouths and storm drains.
