Waking up with the waves on Friday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report. Well, if you're getting a jumpstart to your weekend, then get out there and grab a session.
It has dropped in size, but there are still plenty of playful-sized waves to pick off. The conditions are mostly clean with a combination of continued fading west northwest energy and some minor northwest windswell.
That recipe is providing some fast and workable sectioning lines with some of those set waves a bit walled. Most Newport Beach breaks are running knee- to chest-high, with the standout spots pulling shoulder-high waves with a few head high plus sets.

At 5:26 early this morning the tide dropped to a 2.8 low and then pushes back up to a 4.9 high at 11:18 later this morning and then drops once again to a 0.3 low at 6:45 this evening.
If you're planning on paddling, throw on the 4/3 full suit and maybe the booties, with the water temperature hanging between 55 and 57 degrees. See ya in the water!
