Football: OC Top 10 and Patch's Vote After Week 4

There's plenty of movement in the top 10 after some of last week's results were taken into account.

Martin Henderson of Patch.com votes in the weekly Orange County Top 10 Football Poll in cooperation with the Orange County Register.

Below is Henderson's vote following the third weekend of prep football, and below that is this week's OC Top 10 based on the votes of 10 media members; each first-place vote among the 10 voters is worth 10 points, each second-place vote is worth 9 points, etc

The Orange County Top 10

A poll of Orange County media members (comments by Steve Fryer)

1. Santa Margarita (5-0, 100 points)

A big victory over St. Bonaventure, but even bigger could be loss of QB Johnny Stanton. Next: vs. Servite at Saddleback College, Oct. 5. 

2. Mission Viejo (5-0, 87)

Diablos' 84-22 victory over Aliso Niguel set single-game scoring record. Mission's CIF finalist boys basketball team last year scored more than 84 only once. Next: vs. Redlands East Valley, Friday.

3. Tesoro (5-0, 77)

Titans moved up one position in poll after 17-14 win over state-ranked Chaparral of Temecula. Next: at Trabuco Hills, Oct. 5.

4. Mater Dei (4-0, 75)

Monarchs survived 15 penalties, two that negated touchdowns, to beat Edison, 20-14. Next: at Harbor City Narbonne, Friday, 7 p.m.

5. Edison (3-1, 56)

Chargers had difficulty running the football, but passing game showed improvement in 20-14 loss to Mater Dei. Next: at San Clemente, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

6. El Toro (5-0, 52)

Conner Manning played like mythological being against El Cajon Valhalla, throwing for 613 yards and seven touchdowns. Next: vs. Garden Grove, at Trabuco Hills High, Friday. 

7. Orange Lutheran (5-0, 37)

Lancers go undefeated in nonleague under first-year coach Petersen. Now the fun starts—the Trinity League. Next: vs. St. John Bosco at Orange Coast College, Oct. 5 

8. Tustin (5-0, 34)

Tillers beat perhaps their top challenger in the Empire League, Yorba Linda, and did it in one-sided fashion, 40-7. Next: at Valencia, Friday, 7 p.m.

9. Foothill (4-1, 14)

Knights make top 10 debut after beating Esperanza, 38-10. Loss was to Tustin, by seven points. Next: at El Modena, Thursday, 7 p.m. 

10. Servite (1-3, 7)

Friars shut out for second game in a row in 42-0 loss to nationally ranked Las Vegas Bishop Gorman. First back-to-back shutout losses this century for Servite. Next: at Santa Fe Springs St. Paul, Friday, 7 p.m.
