Football: Corona del Mar 44, Loara 3

It has been 44 years since Corona del Mar and Loara played each other in football, and the Sea Kings celebrated by scoring a point for every 365 days in that span. 

Vying for its third consecutive Southern Section Southern Division championship, Corona del Mar dominated a team that had just last week beaten fourth-seeded Westminster.

The Sea Kings, who won the game at Newport Harbor, are on the road next week against Los Amigos, which defeated Estancia.

Key Stats: Luke Napolitano passed for 270 yards and three touchdowns, of 43, 6 and 31 yards.

Pivotal Moment: On its first possession, Loara drove to the 24-yard line, but Parker Chase stripped the ball from quarterback David Glistnick and Harrison Carter recovered a fumble for CdM, which scored three plays later on Bo St. Geme’s 43-yard catch and carry. The dye was cast.
