Specialty Brews Making a Difference in OC

More than 20 Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf locations are working to make a difference in Orange County schools.

It’s Monday again and chances are you might need some coffee to get you through the week. If that’s the case, the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is encouraging coffee and tea lovers to stop by one of its Orange County locations to grab a boost and help raise money for local schools at the same time.

Along with selling gourmet drinks, the company has been committed to contributing to local charities. Its latest project is the Orange County Blend, a project specifically designed to benefit schools in OC.

“We have many loyal customers in the surrounding Orange County communities that we hope will embrace these new blends and help make a real tangible difference in helping our neighborhood schools,” said Mel Elias, CEO and president of Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

How It Works

Now through October, the company is selling Orange County Blend Coffee and Orange County Sunshine Blend Tea, two blends exclusive to the OC area, at 24 locations throughout the county. The coffee is $9.95 and the tea is $8.95. For every bag of coffee or tea sold, the stores will donate $1 to a designated school.

In Corona del Mar, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has partnered with Harbor View Elementary. Store manager Laurie Tooch said she is excited about the program. “We are more than just a coffee house, we are part of the neighborhood,” Tooch said.

The goal of the project is to raise $20,000, which will be used toward the greatest needs of the schools. In addition, the stores are also supporting school events  through providing product samples. Charlene Metoyer, principal at Harbor View Elementary, said the company has been a great business partner.

“Our staff enjoys delicious coffee during our meetings and our computer lab will be enhanced by funds generated from the OC Blend Campaign,” Metoyer said. “It’s a win win!”

Steve Shubinski, the company’s Orange County District Manager, said each day the projects gains more support.

“It is a direct, grass roots approach to reaching out within the Orange County community and making a hopeful lasting impact,” Shubinski said. “Our customers have really started to embrace the OC Blend. It will be exciting to see how much monies are raised this year.”
