Orange County School of the Arts students are in the running to design Vans shoes. The local teens designed sneakers in the contest and have made it to the semi-final voting stage.

Students from Irvine's University High are also in the mix. (The Marina High School listed is not from Huntington Beach but from Marina, Calif.) More than 2,000 schools entered.

The winning school's art department could win $50,000 and the chance for its shoes to be produced and sold in Vans' stores, said art teacher Kelly Foulk of Calabasas High, another school in the running.

Voting ends at 9 a.m., PST on May 12. The finalists will be announced the same day.
