Newport High Schools Rank Among Best in Nation

Corona del Mar High School ranks 46th in California, while Newport Harbor High School ranks 112th, according to the U.S. News & World Report.

The U.S. News & World Report has released its rankings of the best high schools in America and two Newport Beach high schools earned a spot on the list.

According to the report, Corona del Mar High School is ranked 46th in California and 279th in the nation, while Newport Harbor High School is ranked as 112th in the state and 575th in the country. Laura Boss, spokeswoman for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District, said the district is pleased with the rankings of CDMHS, NHHS and the other district high schools which also made the list.

"We are among the top 385 schools in the state out of 2,039. Estancia, Costa Mesa, Early College and NHHS are all recognized as silver medal recipients and CDM with a gold medal honor ranking #46 out of the state," Boss said. "The credit goes directly to the school sites who are creating exceptional learning opportunities for students everyday."

More than 21,000 public schools from 49 states and the District of Columbia  were reviewed through data collected via the U.S. Department of Education and other sources. According to the report, the rankings were developed in conjunction with the Washington-based American Institutes for Research to evaluate overall student performance on state-mandated assessments.
