District Names New Principal at Lincoln

Carrie Gammel comes to Corona del Mar's Lincoln Elementary School with an excellent teacher award from the California State Senate.

A new principal has been selected for Corona del Mar's Lincoln Elementary School, the Newport-Mesa Unified School District announced Friday.

Carrie Gammel, the current principal at Del Mar Hills Academy, was chosen after a recruitment process which included input from parents, staff and community members and a district interview process. N-MUSD officials said Gammel has a strong background in educational leadership and instructional expertise, including an Excellent Teacher Award from the California State Senate.

"Her 12 years of classroom teaching and five years of administrative experience enabled her to work with parents, teachers, and the community to create a positive learning environment where every student can excel," Laura Boss, district spokesowoman, said in a released statement.

Gammel implemented a targeted, differentiated math program that was recognized by the California School Recognition Program and resulted in the California Distinguished School Award.

The district's Board of Education is scheduled to approve Gammel's position on Tuesday.

Gammel's first day will be Monday, Sept. 16.
