Corona del Mar High School Offering Vaccinations

Don't forget! Whooping cough booster vaccinations will be given today.

Back-to-school preparations are under way, and in order to make sure students comply with a new state law requiring students in grades seven through 12 to receive a whooping cough booster shot, Corona del Mar High School will be giving vaccinations.

The Tdap shot clinic will be held today, from noon to 4 p.m. at the school's nurse's office. Each vaccination is $55, payable through cash, check or credit card. Students must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and must have their immunization records.

The new law requires all incoming seventh through 12th graders to receive a whooping cough booster shot, called Tdap, before entering school on Sept 6. Students who have not received this booster shot prior to the beginning of the 2011-12 school year will not be allowed to start school. This new mandate includes current students, new students, and transfer students in both public and private schools.

Students who have already received the vaccine simply need to supply documentation to the school. Proof of the Tdap booster shot must include the student’s name, date of birth, vaccine name, date the vaccine was administered, and name of the clinic, office or doctor administering the vaccine.
