Newport City Council To Talk Pot

Medical marijuana outlets are on the City Council's closed session agenda for Tuesday.

The council, according to the agenda, will discuss "potential initiation of litigation involving the illegal sale of marijuana" against three businesses in the city:

• The West Coast Cure on Newport Boulevard
• Nature's Alternative Solutions on Irvine Avenue
• The Healing Tree on Birch Street

California voters gave the OK to medical marijuana in 1996. Since then many cities have sought to ban dispensaries. Dispensaries are prohibited under Newport's zoning and municipal codes, city spokeswomen Tara Finnigan said.
