Planning Commissioner to Run for City Council

Tim Brown has lived in Newport Beach for 28 years and says he has been preparing himself for a seat on the City Council for many years.

A Newport Beach planning commissioner who has served on several city boards and volunteered in the community will run for a seat on the City Council, according to a news release.

Tim Brown, who has lived in Newport Beach for 28 years, announced his candidacy for the District 4 City Council seat on Monday. Brown and businessman Roy Englebrecht are each hoping to win the seat being vacated by Councilwoman Leslie Daigle when her term expires in November 2013.

“I have been preparing myself for this important civic role for many years, by serving on boards and volunteering for community events, and I believe that I have gained both experience and familiarity with a very broad spectrum of residents and small business owners in Newport Beach," Brown said in a released statement. "With this experience I have been able to develop a unique perspective on what is important to the people who live and work in this great city.”

“My only interest in pursuing this seat is to give the residents of Newport Beach the opportunity to elect someone who will continue to provide responsible leadership by listening carefully to residents on all issues of their concern while working with the council to build consensus on decisions that serve the broader interests of all who value the quality of life that is afforded to us here in Newport Beach," Brown said.  "I have no other agenda.”

Brown holds the rank of Full Professor at Riverside City College and earned his doctorate in Institutional Management from Pepperdine University.
