County health officials lifted a water closure issued earlier this week for a section of Newport Bay following a sewage spill, officials reported.
Closure signs were removed today at about 9:55 a.m. by the Orange County Health Care Agency’s Ocean Water Protection Program from the bay water in the 33rd Street Channel, between 32nd and 38th streets.
Around 4:00 p.m. Monday, a water closure was issued for the area following a raw sewage leak of 1,000 gallons which was caused by a broken pump.
It is now safe to swim and dive in the area of the 33rd Street Channel, officials said.
