$500 Scholarships Available to Local Students

The city of Newport Beach will give out 10 scholarships to students looking to pursue a college education.

Ten local students have the opportunity to vie for a $500 scholarship from the city of Newport Beach.

To apply for the scholarship, students must fill out an application and include four reference letters and sealed transcripts by Monday, April 30 by 5 p.m. and deliver it to the city's Human Resource Department.

According to city officials, the scholarships may be used for a variety of college fees including tuition, books, laboratory fees, academic fees and room and board.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be students who live in Newport Beach or be children of regular, full-time Newport Beach employees.  
  • Applicants must be graduating from high school in 2012 and applying to a two-year community college or four-year college or university or transferring from a two-year community college to an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Applicants must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and must be applying to an accredited two-year community college or an accredited four-year college or university.
