Newport Beach 2012 Election Guide

Here's a rundown of candidates and ballot measures facing Newport Beach voters in Tuesday's election.

Newport Beach City Council

In Newport Beach the race for open seats on the Newport Beach City Council will be uncontested. Three candidates will be running unopposed for the three open seats for Districts 2, 5 & 7. Newport Beach Mayor Pro Tem Keith Curry is running for Newport Coast's District 7, Councilman Ed Selich in District 5 and resident Tony Petros for the District 2 seat which currently is filled by Councilman Steve Rosansky.

Measure EE

If approved Measure EE would make 38 changes to the city's charter. The measure include banning the use of red-light cameras and incorporating protections against class-action lawsuits against the city. The Newport Beach City Council is in support of the measure. Opponents say the measure encompasses too may changes with just a single vote.

Congress

In the 48th Congressional District, Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is running against Democrat Ron Varasteh.

United States Senate

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D) faces Republican Challenger Elizabeth Emken in the race to represent California. One of the most entrenched incumbents in the senate, Feinstein has a whopping fundraising lead with $9,148,030 to Emken’s $676,726. Emken currently lives in Northern California, but she grew up in Orange County.

State Assembly

In the 74th Assembly District, incumbent Allan Mansoor (R-Costa Mesa) faces off against Democrat Robert Rush.

State Senate

Sen. Mimi Walters will takes on attorney Steve Young in another matchup for the 37th Senate District.
