Gas Prices Around OC Climb Above $4

The cheapest gas in Laguna Beach is $4.09 a gallon, while Los Alamitos is clutching on to $3.84 a gallon.

Prices at gas pumps around Orange County are steep today, as the average cost of gasoline shot above the $4 mark smack in the middle of a holiday weekend.

Motorists around OC are having to pay the highest prices since June 3. The average price is 17.8 cents more than one week ago, 30.2 cents higher than a month ago and 50.8 cents greater than a year ago, according to AAA.

The price of gasoline has increased on 28 of the past 30 days, including 5 cents on Friday, the largest daily price increase since Feb. 25. Analysts have cited increasing oil prices and the closure of some California refineries for maintenance as reasons for the rising prices.

If you don't want the spike in gas prices to keep you home this weekend, be sure to take a look at Patch's new page that tracks the cheapest gas in town for you. (http://newportbeach.patch.com/traffic)
