Former City Attorney David Hunt Arrested on DUI Charge

The 53-year-old was busted Friday night after allegedly colliding with a parked car. He was later released on his own recognizance.

David Hunt, the former Newport Beach city attorney who now works as an outside contractor for the city, was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of drunk driving after running into a parked car, a police spokeswoman said Monday.

Hunt, 53, of Santa Ana, was arrested about 7:25 p.m. Friday after he allegedly ran his car into a parked car in a parking lot at the dead end of Ford Road, west of Mesa View Drive, according to Kathy Lowe, police spokeswoman.

Hunt was not injured in the crash, but both cars sustained moderate damage, she said. He was later released on his own recognizance.

Last week, the Newport Beach City Council voted 6-1 to rehire Hunt as an outside contractor, entering into an agreement with his new law firm less than one month .

"The city will be reviewing the situation," Tara Finnigan, city spokeswoman said. "The city attorney was authorized last Tuesday to work with the law firm but no work has been sent."
