Newport Beach Councilman Tony Petros suffered a health scare last week while cycling, but he has since returned to work, according to a report in the Orange County Register.

Petros, who has been a triathlete for almost two decades, was cycling down Pacific Coast Highway on July 28 when he felt something was wrong he went to Hoag Hospital.

Petros said heart disease runs in his family, but said in his recent case "genetics were trumped by good health."
