Editor's note: Patch is publishing one candidate statement each day this week from the three candidates running unopposed for Newport Beach City Council.
Statment from Newport Beach City Council Candidate Tony Petros:
Newport Beach is a wonderful City; a community of families, a vibrant business center, an outdoor paradise and a popular vacation destination. Newport Beach is well run; our streets are good, services are excellent, and our public safety is outstanding. However, we need to be vigilant to maintain our city’s good standing.
With the support of my community, I will;
Continue the prudent, conservative fiscal management of the City.
Reduce taxpayer obligation to pensions and resolve our employee compensation issues.
Complete the negotiations on John Wayne Airport and maintain the curfew.
Prudently invest in long range capital planning for streets, sidewalks, waterfront, bay and marinas.
My wife Kristen and I have two daughters, Erika and Emily. I am a graduate of University of California, Irvine BA and BS and attended Cornell University for a Master’s degree.
I am President of the Environmental Nature Center, member of the City’s Bicycle Safety Committee, the West Newport Revitalization Committee, the West Newport Beach Association, Harbor Day School Board of Trustees and the Orange County Housing and Community Development Commission.
I have served as President of the Newport Mesa Unified School District Measure A Oversight Committee and been on many Boards including Save Our Youth. I am an amateur cyclist and triathlete.
