City Pumps Brakes on Bike Safety Committee

The monthly Newport Beach Bike Safety Committee meeting has come to a standstill until city officials decide the group's fate.

The Newport Beach bike safety committee typically meets the first Monday of each month, but since its term expired in January there was no meeting today.

The committee's annual term ended in Jan. 10 and there is no official word yet on when the fate of the group will be determined.

"The Committee does not currently exist and will not meet until it has been renewed by the Mayor and City Council," Brad Sommers, the city's senior civil engineer, said in an email.
