Woman Arrested for Allegedly Smashing Banks' Glass Doors

Police say Rebecca Kathleen Netherton used a fire extinguisher to smash glass doors at the Bank of America and Citibank in Corona del Mar.

A 34-year-old woman was arrested over the weekend for allegedly stealing a fire extinguisher and shattering glass doors at two banks in Newport Beach, a police official reported.

Rebecca Kathleen Netherton was booked on suspicion of commercial burglary, authorities reported. Netherton's arrest stems from two separate incidents that occurred late Sunday, according to Newport Beach police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe. At about 11:43 p.m. police responded to an alarm call at the Bank of America at 3300 E. Coast Highway in Corona del Mar. A few minutes later, another 911 call came into Newport Beach police from the Citibank at 3021 E. Coast Highway in CDM.

"When contacted Netherton had the fire extinguisher taken from the Bank of America in her possession," Lowe told Patch. "Both banks had doors/windows smashed."

Netherton was being held on $20,000 bail, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department's online inmate information.
