A woman who allegedly stole $5,600 from a 94-year-old man's safe at the Crown Cover Senior Living center in Corona del Mar was arrested Monday, Newport Beach police said.

Yeni Miranda Salgado, 24, of Anaheim, was booked into the Newport Beach Jail on suspicion of burglary, according to police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe. The victim, who wasn't identified, told detectives $5,600 in cash was taken from the safe in his room between Oct. 31 and Dec. 22.

"Over the past few months, the ... suspect befriended the victim, gained his trust, and on two occasions entered his residence unaccompanied to provide cleaning services," Lowe said in a released statement. "During one of these visits to the victim’s room, the suspect removed cash from the victim’s locked safe."
