Woman and Dog Hit By Car in Crosswalk

A woman and her small dog are seriously injured after being hit by a car on Newport Coast Drive.

A woman and her small dog were seriously injured Tuesday night after being hit by a car in a Newport Coast crosswalk, a fire official reported.

The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. at Newport Coast Drive and San Joaquin Hills Road. According to Newport Beach Fire Capt. Glenn White, the woman was struck by the car while walking her small dog in the crosswalk. She was "thrown in the air and across the pavement by the impact," White said in a released statement.

The woman was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with critical injuries. The dog was also injured, but its condition was not released.

The Newport Beach Police Department is investigating the crash. No other information was available.
