Vandals Smash Windows of Newport SUVs

In one case, a suspect tried to steal a third row seat from a car parked on Orchid Street.

Several cars parked around Newport Beach were recently targeted by vandals, police reported.

Police say the incidents occurred between Friday, Jan. 18 and Saturday, Jan. 19 at the following locations:

  • 300 block of Larkspur Avenue – An unknown suspect stole two surfboards, a board bag, board sock, battery pack, fin and a leash from an unlocked van.
  • 500 block of Orchid Street – The rear window of an SUV was shattered. Police say the suspect may have been trying to steal the third row seat.
  • Narcissus and Fifth – The rear window of an SUV was shattered.
  • 700 block of Poppy Avenue – The rear window of an SUV was shattered.
  • 400 block of Fernleaf Avenue – The rear window of an SUV was shattered.

  • Take valuables out: Remove all valuable from plain sight or hide them before arriving at your destination.

  • Close your windows: An open window or sunroof allows for quick entry into your vehicle by a thief – Always check that they are completely shut before leaving your vehicle.
